iPOGO is a batch file processing coordinate geometry program that has been used extensively in the northern Virginia - southern Maryland area since the 1960's. The iPOGO command file is an ASCII text file that the user can build with any text word processor such as notepad, Word, WordPerfect or the built-in iPOGO editor. The user can document any thing he/she wishes directly in the computations. This makes iPOGO ideal as a program for teaching proper computing techniques, documentation and verification of results. It also makes it easy to document such tasks as breaking down a section or designing a subdivision. iPOGO can be used for calculations ranging from simple cogo to extremely complex subdivision design tasks. The command syntax has been refined through constant daily use by surveyors in real practice for over 30 years. There are so many variations of solving the same problem that a user may never exhaust the possibilities. In fact, in the past there have been contests among users to see who could solve a problem with the least number of commands. Surprisingly, the command syntax is so simple that an expert user can read the survey computations like one would a book or narrative. iPOGO also has a built-in legal description writer, named MBD, that supports user definable boilerplate text and variable substitution. Great for teaching legal description writing courses. With iPOGO's true batch file processing, if the offset from centerline of street was changed during the project, you simply change the offset in the iPOGO command file and all subsequent computations adjust accordingly. Likewise, if you enter a 100 course metes and bounds legal description and transpose a number in the 53rd call, you simply change the bad call and recompute. No re-entry required as is the case with many other software programs. iPOGO can export all data in Version 12 DXF format for use in the CAD/GIS package of your choice. iPOGO will also import DXF files and will assign point numbers to coordinates of vertexes, as well as automatically build the iPOGO inverse commands from the polylines, lines, arcs and circles.
iPOGO does not do contours or DTMs. If you are interested in placing iPOGO in your school, please send an email to : studentsoftware@ipogo.net |
